Definition of IPC 201:
Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender.
Classification :
According to Para 1 – This section is Bailable, According as the offence in relation to which disappearance of evidence is caused is cognizable or non-cognizable and Non-compoundable.
According to Para 2 and 3 – This section is Bailable, Non-cognizable and Non-compoundable.
Triable By :
According to Para 1 – Court of Session.
According to Para 2 – Magistrate of the first class.
According to Para 3 – Court by which the offence is triable.
Punishment :
According to Para 1 – Imprisonment for 7 years and fine.
According to Para 2 – Imprisonment for 3 years and fine.
According to Para 3 – Imprisonment for a quarter of the longest term provided for the offence, or fine or both.
